Admissions Process

The Calais School works cooperatively with local school districts to offer appropriate placement for students with special needs who may be struggling in their current academic environment. We use a team approach to review all candidates. The admissions process involves three steps.

Step 1: Calais Admissions Team receives all required documentation from the referring school district.

Step 2: Calais Admissions Team conducts a thorough review of student records as provided by the district. Reviews occur as soon as full student records are received.

Step 3: If our review indicates that The Calais School is able to meet the individual needs of the student then we will invite the case manager, parent(s) or legal guardian(s) and student to an in-person screening. During this meeting you will receive a complete description of the educational program and services, as well as a tour of the school.

Acceptance

Upon acceptance and prior to a start date, a multi-disciplinary planning meeting is held at The Calais School to ensure appropriate services are in place per the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Parents/guardians are able to meet with teachers and therapists in order to provide a smooth transition for the student.
