The summer ESY floriculture students have been working hard to keep up the vegetable garden. They have been learning how to use the garden tools such as shovels, pitchforks, wheel barrels, and hand tools. We have been discussing pollination methods for the corn, squash , pumpkins, tomatoes, peppers, onions and potatoes. Garden pests have also been discussed and methods of organic prevention have been used. The students have just begun to harvest the squash and peppers and are looking forward to picking the corn, tomatoes, and eggplant. In the Fall, the classes will harvest the pumpkins, potatoes, and onions.

Inside on hot or rainy days, students have learned how to take flowers from outside or from a store and make a centerpiece. Elements of floral design have been discussed.

There is much more to come!
